Luminary 002: Jill

Luminary 002: Jill

With spring well and truly cemented and the warm balmy days of summer beckoning us closer, our second Littlehouse Luminary is truly a ray of style freshness. Without further ado here is Luminary 002.

Luminary: Jill
Occupation: Interior Stylist & Partner of Design Studio

Tell us a little bit about what your day looks like.
It's quite a family orientated day and I usually start it by walking the dog before heading into work. Every day is different and as our design studio is in our house I love the flexibility that gives me.
What are the little things that make you smile?
My family, my kids, my husband, my dog, my friends. I love a good laugh when catching up with friends.
If you could define your style as a shape which shape would you be?
Definitely, angular and tailored shapes. Actually, thinking about it this is probably one of the main reasons why I like Littlehouse Jewellery.
Tell us a bit about how you got into your career?
I started as a self taught fashion designer, then styled and wrote the fashion pages in The Scotsman newspaper, now I style interiors for photo shoots, design and photography clients.
What is your favourite piece for the Littlehouse collections?
Ooh that's a tough but if I had to pick a favourite it would be the new half Albert21 necklaces, which can be worn as a short necklace or around the wrist as a bracelet. They're so versatile and they have a wonderful weighty feel about them. But I also love the new half circles ring from the Shape on Shape collection.
And why?
They mirror the confidence I feel in my style and that's something I love when it comes to fashion.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be?
Be bold, be confident, be kind and always stay true to yourself.
What hidden gem in your city should we know about?
It's hard to pick just one as Edinburgh is such an amazing city so here are my top picks.
  • Glenogle Swimming Pool in Stockbridge. I like the architecture of the Victorian pool but I love the community of women going there to the various fitness classes. It just has such a great atmosphere.
  • The Secret Garden on the Royal Mile. An oasis in the city, surrounded by historic buildings and busy streets it offers an elegant and calm space.
  • Thistle Street. Full of individual local boutiques & businesses, nice surprises in stylish fashion, food and cocktails! There’s nothing better than a moment to myself exploring. And to do some great people watching and because it somehow always makes me feel like I’m on holiday I love to head with friends to a hotel cocktail bar, somewhere like the new Edinburgh Grand.
